What We Do, And How We’re Different

People often ask what I do, and when I initially tell them I am in mortgage planning for residential Real Estate, I often get the same dull, unenthused “oh”.

And that’s because, people have a pre conceived notion of what an office job is, especially an office job in real estate. And believe it or not, I actually relate to that “Oh”. I know the business they are thinking of, the environment and the process, and it’s generally a fairly accurate pre conception. However, that model is not our model.

DifferentWe are a little different over here at the GreenHouse Group, and I take a lot of pride in that. So when someone replies “oh, so you’re in real estate” with the enthusiasm and electricity akin to that of a dim 40 watt light bulb, I love to take a moment and say “Yup, but it’s probably not what you are thinking,” I like to tell people to imagine a real estate office, full of normal people, who actually care more about the people they work with than how to make a quick buck. Let me quickly list three of the ways we are different that other shops right off the bat:

  1. We meet with all our clients to make sure we are a good fit to work together. Refinances and purchases take well around 30 days, so if you’re going to work with someone for 30+ days isn’t important that you like, trust and connect with each other? We think so.
  2. We work with fewer clients to ensure the clients we do work with have a better experience. This doesn’t mean we charge these clients more, it simply means we only take on clients we can give our attention to. We based our business model off of referrals and introductions. And we can’t earn those if we don’t reserve the time they need to see them through these complicated transactions smoothly.
  3. On a more personal level, My boss has told me on multiple occasions, to be take a little time off to go to the zoo, spend with family, or do something for myself like a bike ride. This may seem trivial but it is a belief at the core of our business, that people matter. Their lives, their time, their families and so on. This isn’t just reserved for clients, we believe in having balanced lives.
